PONTEFRACT SWIMMING POOL DEVELOPMENT
We were recently specified for a concrete wall swimming pool in Pontefract, West Yorkshire. This new 10 - lane swimming pool development, which forms part of a £20 million investment, has been a huge investment for the local area and it is hoped when it is open to be a swimming facility for all ages and abilities. Classes for the swimming pool will include Aqua Zumba and Float Fit. The local councillor Jacquie Speight, has stated that “the building is really coming together now and you can imagine just how impressive it’s going to look when fully complete.”
The LECA LWA was stockpiled in a local tarmac space and could be delivered with extremely limited logistical space, this allowed for minimal time delays and the material could be simply be pneumatically blown in. Furthermore, the backfilling of this project was around all the filtration pipework to the rear of the pool walls. The natural lightweight properties of the material provided strength and a lightweight solution which had reduced impact on the overall swimming pool structure and limiting the excess weight on the filtration pipework.

Interesting Fact: Over 700m3 of Leca LWA was installed in this project, and was a suitable solution as it could be pneumatically delivered through one access point at a distance of up to 50m.

The pneumatic delivery provided a rapid delivery rate and minimal man power to complete. Moreover, the ability to deliver Leca LWA with safe social distancing maintained ensured that alternative solutions would be an issue in terms of health and safety.
