Water Management
Leca LWA has the ability to delay water runoff by a principle known as water detention. Proper detention provides a steady and manageable flow of water and reduces the risk of flooding. Leca LWA has a highly porous internal structure and an abundance of voids between the grains. This property allows Leca LWA to detain a flow and thereby reduce the peak intensity of runoff from an area.

Leca® Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate has been an important ingredient for civil engineers throughout the world in providing the perfect material to solve a variety of engineering issues when developing Green Roofs within a city landscape.
In general, Leca® Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate is used to reduce, compensate or prevent settlements, to improve stability of a fill structure or landscape or to decrease soil pressure on a retaining structure produced by backfill. In the same applications, Leca® Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate can be used both as drainage intensifying and as moisture retaining for vegetation and also as a frost protection layer.
Leca® LWA provides a lightweight solution for effective drainage and with the engineering ability to be pneumatically blown into place through agile pipes up to 50m in distance.
In general, Leca® Lightweight Aggregate (LWA) is used to reduce, compensate or prevent settlements, to improve stability of a fill structure or landscape or to decrease soil pressure on a retaining structure produced by backfill.
Water drainage system can be difficult when the drain runs across a soft soil site. Leca® Lightweight Aggregate can be used as a light weight pipe surround to reduce the pressure to the underlying soils and minimize the likelihood of irregular settlement.
Leca® LWA can be pneumatically delivered to provide an insulating void around the perimeter of swimming pools - with common engineering issues overcome including limited access - a material delivery piping system can reach up to 50m in reach.
Through specifying Leca® LWA - engineering issues can be overcome which would can be found with type 1 fill material and GSB type fill. This reduced the weight acting on the rear of the structure by at least 75%, in comparison to traditional fill materials. This reduction in weight can avoid potential sliding, overturning, slip and tilting or bearing failures.
