PRESTON WESTERN DISTRIBUTOR ROAD (PWDR) PROJECT (Phase 4)

LECA® Lightweight Fill was installed for the phase 4 of the PWDR Project in Preston. This completes the 4 phases, where LECA® Lightweight Fill has been specification for 4 bridge/ highway sections of the ambitious PWDR development.
For Bartle Lane Bridge, the use of LECA® Lightweight Fill enabled the scope of the foundations to be reduced and ensure the structural design was value engineered. The main property for the use of LECA® Lightweight Fill on PWDR was its low density enabling the structural design to be as efficient as possible.
The ‘pull out’ resistance of LECA® Lightweight Fill makes it an ideal solution for reinforced soil retaining walls and bridge design. When constructed over weak sub-soils or voids, this method has been proven to cut overall construction costs considerably.
LECA® Lightweight Fill is used extensively to reduce vertical loading. As the LECA® Lightweight Fill is lightweight it can be transported in large volumes using up to 80m3 Arctic tippers.
